Day 13

It's amazing, the things one does when one is bored and among bored friends. Take last night, for example. We were sitting in the living room, bored out of our minds.
"What should we do now?" I asked.
"I dunno." Came the reply. Finally, Vad suggested the most logical answer.

"Let's carve up a watermelon and set it on fire."

So we went to HEB and bought a good-sized watermelon, and brought it back to the apartment. We took pictures with it (The most awesome of which has Vad looking completely drunk) and began hollowing it out with spoons and ice cream scoops. When you're hollowing out a watermelon, be aware that you'll need a large bowl to hold all the liquid and pulp. We'd hold it upside down over the bowl from time to time, and all the goop would shlorp out. It was awesome. I was commissioned to design a face for our dear fruit. I settled on a pirate face. Because, obviously, what could possibly be cooler than pirates?

We didn't end up setting it on fire. We stuck a candle inside, though, and set it out on the porch, facing the street, for all to see. And now people will look and say:

Today, I was walking to my apartment, and I saw that one of my neighbors had made a jack-o-lantern out of a watermelon. It had a pirate face. It made my day. MLIA.

Going home today. Meh.
