What have I done?
I just invited my neighbor over for dinner.
"But Channie," You say, confused, "This is a good thing! You can socialize and make a new friend!"
No. Wrong. I'm too worried.
First of all, I was almost too scared to go upstairs. What if she wasn't home, or what if she already had plans? Or worse, what if she WAS home and DIDN'T have plans? With my luck, she was home and didn't have plans, so that was lovely. It was extremely awkward.
She's coming over at 6:30. And I have to clean the apartment and start cooking. I have this chicken curry recipe that I'm really proud of, so I'm making that. I have to make it, because I have the ingredients, and I don't want them to go bad.
This is why I'm worried. What if she comes over and thinks 'she's cooking for me? That's kind of creepy'. And, really, what do I talk to her about?
You see, ever since, well, ever, I guess Kai has been the one to make friends, and I've started out as 'my friend's sister'. Was it that way with you, Vad? Wait, yes it was. It was that way with Cokersan, and Big Sarah, and... I realized last year that I have absolutely no skills in friend-making. So I'm really nervous about making a good impression, but I don't know if I'll overdo it. So, in short, I'm absolutely terrified about what I have just done. I really wish it were Cokersan or Vad or Kai and her Lechner buddies coming over instead. Even if Kai and the Nerds talk about Lechner stuff and don't talk to me, I'd rather do that than cook for someone I barely know.
Please, if anyone reads this, HALP.

Don't panic. :)
ReplyDeleteJust talk, about school and classes and music, or whatever, but try to keep her talking. (LOL, I have no idea. I always try to keep the other person talking. Ask questions. Don't focus too much on yourself.) How long has she been there, what does she like to do around College Station, blah blah blah. I would not talk about anything even remotely related to the internet. o___O It's possible that that stuff scares people away???
Anyway, just chat. Don't try to impress her, try to get to know her. Tell me how it goes. Even if it's horrible, think of it as a learning opportunity. ;) (That's what my Zoo teacher said about exams. Haha.)
(Also, Kai could probably give you better advice than me, but that's how I would go about it if I was in that situation.)
Also, I would not talk about anything that annoys you unless you know it annoys her also, or unless you can joke about it, or not at all, if possible. Because sometimes when you mention on your blog how annoying screaming brats/kids with those... things you don't like are, it comes off as cranky because those things don't bother me and they're just kids anyway. ;D
